Thoroughly enjoyed our canoe trip. Took about 4 hours going at a steady pace. It was a wicked hot day. The swimming was a lifesaver. Saw large fish, hawks, goldfinches, sandpipers or plovers, and plenty more birds. The river had some fun bends in it where the canoe shot through. Despite no rains and low water we only had to portage twice.
The owner is a hoot. Picked us up at the end of 7 miles in the company shcool bus and launched into down home comedic routine of stories about China and Budweiser and more, and even stopped along country road and picked up a barbecued pork sandwich from a neighbor and waved it in front of us–and told us it was all for him.
Deanna, you were a good sport for trying one of Steve’s wild harvested treats! We are currently awaiting the right occasion to sample some of his dandelion wine project. Thanks for your nice words and welcome anytime!
Dear Steve and the Forest 44 Family:
Thank you for an amazing adventure yesterday! Steve was kind, energetic and informative, and even sent us off with some delicious paw paw treats! I strongly recommend Forest 44 to anyone interested in a natural escape not too far from home. Please check them out!
See you again in the Spring,
Deanna
STLR Adventure Club LOVES Forest 44. Steve has been great about setting us up with rentals, dealing with our shenanigans on the ride back, and just being all around nice to work with. We look forward to our 3rd year of floating with forest 44 every chance we get!
Wow…what a great way to spend an afternoon!! I can’t imagine better people to work with than Steve and Ben…Friendly, fun and they really helped me to appreciate the great outdoors.. What a beautiful , relaxing experience!!!
Steve at Forest 44 Canoe Rental was fantastic! He’s very friendly and VERY easy and flexible to work with. We had all sorts of last minute changes which made the number of boats and mix of canoes vs kayaks an unknown until literally we were in the water. He was totally helpful and willing to work with us to get what we needed. I can’t recommend him enough.
Steve is the greatest!! Thanks to the many kayaking trips we took this summer with Forest 44, we (Betty, Susan and Angie) are ready for a big kayaking trip on Lake Superior. We leave this week. We’ll be thinking of you, Steve, and ready for more trips when we return. We won’t let you forget about the ice cream with the whipped cream and cherries on top either!

My first time canoeing was last weekend. WHAT AN ADVENTURE. In the second half we had a thunderstorm, and our friends tipped their canoe twice then the other ladies went over and got wedged on a tree with the fast waters. It took about ten people an hour to get the canoe loose. Our hero Steve swam out in his heavy denium overalls to save us!! Now THAT is customer service!!!
We have a great picture of the gang with Steve afterwards! We are already planning our next trip, if you all want us back again!! LOL!!
My family’s float from Pacific to Allenton yesterday was a great time. The river was beautiful. Thank you for great service!! The trip could not have gone smoother. Best Regards.
Thanks for a great time, it was such a beautiful float and completely relaxing. I was delightfully suprised at how close it was to St. Louis and amazingly the river was tucked away from city life.
Thanks again Steve and Ben for your great service…I will be back!
Thanks to Steve and Ben for the great service.
We had fun yesterday. The weather was very nice. Canoeing 3.5 hr for 5 mi water way was perfect for our family, not too long, not too short.
Hey Uncle Steve,
Grandpa says to tell you, “humuhumunukunukuapuaa”
and that goes for all of us!!
We’re looking at your new site and it is really cool. Aunt Julie and the kids are here too.
